Yasmin Hinds qualified as a Solicitor in 2005 and is an expert in Data Protection. She spent several years as an in- house lawyer working with a number of well-known financial institutions. For the last 18 months, she was the General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR) Subject Matter Expert (SME) providing technical advice on the new Data Protection Legislation for a reputable investment bank. Yasmin has advised on Data Protection issues across banking, retail, telecommunications and technology. Her work includes assisting with privacy audits, compliance programmes and policy documentation. Yasmin is also a consultant at Data Currency, an online Data Protection platform.. Applying her expertise on data related matters, she advises on gap analyses and global privacy projects, as well as undertaking privacy contract reviews, in addition to designing frameworks and implementing data governance.

Employee surveillance and biometric data has seen a surge in use over the past few years including in the workplace. For example employers use this for Fingerprint scanners, iris scanners, and facial recognition are deployed to open doors, unlock elevators, and to decrypt computers and files on a regular basis by big corporations and public organisations.

Although this can be an efficient way for an organisation to keep track of their staff, this has serious implications if data is lost or misused. This panel will look at the ethics and privacy implications of the use of biometric data and best practice for employers using this data.
