Policy Director, Institute for Technology Law & Policy, Georgetown Law

Jeff Gary is the Policy Director at Georgetown Law's Institute for Technology Law & Policy. In that role, he oversees the Institute's research agenda and advises state and federal officials on key emerging issues in technology policy, including privacy, content moderation, and algorithmic decision-making. Previously, Jeff worked at a privacy non-profit and served in the offices of several U.S. Senators. He is a graduate of Georgetown University Law Center.

US Privacy: The Year for Change?

The US privacy landscape is currently fragmented. With nearly half of the States planning to introduce new privacy bills in the first half of 2020 but having to postpone them due to Covid-19. These are likely to pick up once the vaccines are rolled out. The panel will look at the future of privacy for the US now the Democrats have gained power of the Whitehouse, whether this will be a game-changer for Privacy and it will be pushed higher up the agenda.
