Janine McKelvey

General Counsel BT - Group Data Governance, Privacy and Ethics Officer, British Telecom

Janine joined BT in January 2020. She is a General Council for the Digital & Innovation Businesses in BT, as well as the Data Governance, Privacy and Ethics Officer for the BT Group.

In her role, she manages a number of Legal, Compliance and Governance teams responsible for managing BT's data related risks and enablement opportunities across BT’s businesses in 180 countries.

Janine spent a number of years working in private practice in South Africa (Bowman Gilfillan) and England & Wales (Pinsent Masons) as a TMT lawyer before joining Warner Bros. (Warner Media), where she spent almost 17 years leading their Privacy, Marketing and Digital Legal function across EMEA, LatAm and Australasia as SVP, Legal & Business Affairs.

She participates in a variety of Privacy, Data and Innovation forums, has won a number of Innovation Awards in this space and is a regular contributor to policy discussions on these topics. Having two daughters of her own, she also has a passion for creating career opportunities and mentoring young woman to go ‘beyond limits’ and ‘connect for good’!
