Gordon joined Hostelworld Group as DPO & Group Legal Counsel in January 2020\. Hostelworld is the leading global hostel-focused online booking platform. Headquartered in Dublin, with offices around the world in London, Shanghai, Sydney and Porto, Hostelworld has more than 13 million reviews across 17,700 hostels in more than 179 countries. Prior to joining Hostelworld, Gordon was a senior data privacy lawyer with PwC Legal Middle East in Dubai.
Gordon is a regular contributor to leading legal and business journals on privacy and data protection and has been invited as expert panellist and speaker at the Cyber Security & Data Privacy ConfEx, UK/Europe (2021), the Privacy + Security Academy Forum (2021) and the French Institute of Risk & Compliance’s European Compliance & Technology Conference (2019) in Paris. Gordon has been a regular panellist at IAPP events and webinars during Covid-19 including the Dublin, Cork and UAE KnowledgeNet Chapters in 2020\. Gordon was appointed IAPP Young Privacy Professional for the IAPP Dublin Chapter for 2021.
Gordon obtained his law degree from University College Dublin and LLM from Trinity College Dublin. Gordon is admitted as a solicitor in Ireland and England & Wales and is a New York-qualified attorney. Gordon holds the status of Fellow of Information Privacy (FIP) from the International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP) as well as the CIPP/E and CIPM certifications.
The UK Data Protection Index, produced by Data Protection World Forum and the DPO Centre, each quarter gives us a glimpse into the changing attitudes and sentiments of Data Protection Officers. The panel of 334 DPOs are quizzed every three months on the same set of questions, allowing us to track shifting sentiments. New questions are also added each quarter in order to gather insight into DPOs’ views on the very latest topics. In this session the panel will discuss some of the more eye-catching findings from the latest UK Data Protection Index report.
